The primary Institutional Review Board used by WellStar is Western IRB (WIRB). At the sponsor's or investigator's request, other central IRBs may be considered.

WellStar Health System Pharmacy Department has supported investigators conducting research for over 10 years. The WHS Pharmacy staff has experience with industry-sponsored studies as well as cooperative group trials.
Services Provided

Drug storage
The Pharmacy Department provides a limited access area for storage of investigational drugs. The investigational drugs are separated from general stock to prevent accidental use. The Pharmacy can accommodate investigational drugs that require refrigeration or freezing.

Accountability
All investigational drugs are received and dispensed by the Pharmacy Department. The staff is trained in proper documentation specific to each study. All records are maintained for the time period required by the sponsor and/or the FDA that is established in the clinical trial agreement.

Dose Preparation
All investigational drug doses will be prepared according to the protocol procedures. All IV doses will be prepared in the IV room using aseptic technique.

Inventory Management
The Pharmacy Department is responsible for maintaining appropriate levels of study drugs and placing requests for drug re-supply as needed.
